January 31 - February 3, 2008 - University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Guest Faculty Composers: Bruce Broughton, Chen Yi, Bernard Rands, Dmitri Tymoczko

Virko Baley and Jorge Grossmann, co-directors

The second edition of N.E.O.N., Nevada Encounters Of New Music, the composers' symposium and festival at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, offers four days of intensive activities including concerts, lectures, private lessons (one with each faculty member), and master classes. This student-focused program combines active learning with enriching exposure to new music, allied to the excitement of the Las Vegas experience.

Two ensembles will be in residence in order to guarantee excellent performances of selected works: NEXTET, UNLV's new music ensemble, with a history that goes back to early 1970s, and TALEA, a New York based group. TALEA's performers, under the artistic direction of Alex Lipowski are a young and dynamic group with a strong commitment to new music, having given dozens of world premieres of contemporary works. The two ensembles will perform faculty and student compositions in three evening concerts.

ALL CONCERTS WILL TAKE PLACE IN DR. ARTURO RANDO-GRILLOT RECITAL HALL (BEAM MUSIC CENTER)

ALL COMPOSER SEMINARS WILL TAKE PLACE IN HFA 147 (HAM FINE ARTS BUILDING)
