N.E.O.N.—Nevada Encounters of New Music, a composers' symposium and festival at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, now in its third year, offers four days of intensive activities including concerts, lectures, private lessons, and master classes. This program combines active learning with enriching exposure to new music, allied to the excitement of the Las Vegas experience.

Ensembles-in-residence: NEXTET, UNLV's new music ensemble; and New York-based Talea Ensemble.

Composers of any age and nationality are welcome to apply. Eight participating fellows and five auditors will be selected. Each fellow will participate in private lessons, master classes and will have one piece performed by the resident ensembles.

Participating Fellows: $250
Auditors: $125
50% required to reserve place, due after notification of acceptance.
(N.E.O.N. does not provide transportation, lodging or meals.)

MAX DIJULIO Competition Prizes:

Two fellows will be selected to receive the MAX DIJULIO Competition Prizes ($1,000 each) for Music Composition and for Trumpet Composition. The prizes will be announced at the closing concert on April 12, 2009.

TO APPLY: Submit the following:

1) Completed application form (downloadable here).

2) Two or three scores (2 copies of each). At least one of the scores submitted must be for any combination/subset of the following ensemble: flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello, piano, percussion, voice. Works with electronics are also welcome.

3) Two copies of an audio CD with recordings of the submitted scores (if available).

4) A brief resume or bio.

5) Application fee of $15; make checks payable to "UNLV Board or Regents." Checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank.

Should you like your materials returned, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
