Anthony Barone joined the faculty of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2006. A musicologist and pianist, he specializes in studies of European nineteenth- and early twentieth-century repertoires. He studied at Columbia University (Ph.D.), the Eastman School of Music (M.A.), and Cornell University (B.A.). From 2001-2006, he was a member of the music history faculty at Manhattan School of Music, where he developed courses on Richard Wagner, early romanticism, and surveys of piano literature. He has taught music history at Rutgers University, Manhattan College (Riverdale), and Columbia University. Dr. Barone has focused on the works of Richard Wagner, but his research interests extend to seventeenth and eighteenth century repertoires. His editorial and scholarly work includes past editorship of Current Musicology and publications that have appeared in Cambridge Opera Journal and Music & Letters, as well as performance reviews for the Kurt Weill Foundation Newsletter. He has lectured at national and local conferences on topics including Wagner's works, Richard Strauss's Elektra, and Giuseppe Verdi and fascist Italy.
